Opposing uncoordinated national interventions
From 19 to 23 September, delegates from 38 countries representing IARU Region 1 met at the Parkhotel Schönbrunn in Vienna to discuss, amongst other things, frequency allocations and the forthcoming guidelines for cross-border radio traffic. After all, radio frequencies do not respect national borders. Anyone acting as a transmitter over the airwaves feels the consequences of uncoordinated national interventions first-hand.

The delegates spent hours fine-tuning the regulatory framework. Motions put forward by the regional associations were debated at length. The Austrian Amateur Radio Association had welcomed the radio amateurs to the historic building.

A strong Swiss delegation
The 27th General Conference has now come to an end. Bernard HB9ALH, Urs HB9BKT and Markus HB9GXM represented the interests of Swiss radio amateurs on behalf of the USKA at the event.

Treasurer: HB9EYH
The new Executive Committee has also taken up its duties. Hans Blondeel Timmerman PB2T chairs the committee as President. Vera Hardmeier HB9EYH holds the post of Treasurer. Joining the team are Dennis Green ZS4BS, Achraf Chaabane 3V9A, Ahmad AlHoli 9K2DB, Ana Canizares Bejarano EI5IXB, Joseph Msallam 5B4APB, Markus Großer DL8GM and Florian Zwingl OE3FTA.

International umbrella organisation
The International Amateur Radio Union acts as the global umbrella organisation for over 160 national member societies. It represents the interests of amateur radio vis-à-vis regulatory bodies such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Region 1 comprises Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North Asia, and is committed to spectrum protection and reliable operating conditions.
