HBradio 5/2026 is now available online

The latest issue of HBradio is now available to download. Highlights in this issue include: a moving interview with a blind radio amateur, practical tips on portable antennas and everything you need to know about the new USKA website.

  • No pen, no paper! Wolfgang Fasser, HB9CCS, lost his sight at the age of 22 and now operates via radio using text-to-speech, the Begali key and accessible contest programmes. An interview about amateur radio without sight.
  • The new USKA website: Andreas Spiess, HB9BLA, explains what’s changing: four languages, a personalised address ‘Rufzeichen@uska.ch’ for every member, and the ‘Uski’ support bot.
  • Enhanced radials: How many dB do four radials, lying just a few centimetres above the ground, add? Olivier Borgeaud, HB9IIH, has worked it out.
  • A DIY project: H-field meter for magnetic loops (approx. 30 francs), PCB design using KiCad and the OscarWatch satellite software.
  • Emergency radio and contests: the Swiss Emergency Contest on 7 November, the 40th anniversary of the CB Whitsun Contest, and the results of the NMD and Field Day.
