HB525SH – Schaffhausen has been part of the Swiss Confederation for 525 years
The Untersee/Rhine Radio Group (HB9FU) and the USKA Schaffhausen Section (HB9SH) are commemorating Schaffhausen’s accession to the Swiss Confederation with the special call sign HB525SH on all bands.
The special call sign HB525SH has been on the air since November 2025. This marks the anniversary of the canton of Schaffhausen, which in 2026 will have been part of the Swiss Confederation for 525 years.
Active on all bands
The Untersee/Rhein Radio Group (HB9FU), based in Hemishofen, operates this call sign in close cooperation with the USKA Schaffhausen Section (HB9SH). Whilst the first few months were characterised by digital modes such as FT4 and FT8, the call sign will be used more extensively across all bands and in all modulation modes during the anniversary year of 2026.
Digital repeaters
The HB9FU radio group, founded in May 2017, has just under 20 members. The club maintains a permanent 2m C4FM node in Hemishofen, which is permanently connected via Wires-X to the HB9SH repeater in Neuhausen am Rheinfall and to the Brandmeister TG 22827. In addition, a 70cm FM Echolink gateway is in operation.
Amateur Radio Information Day
As well as the anniversary celebrations, the amateur radio group is planning further activities for 2026. On 9 May, the Radio Information Day will take place in Oberwald near Hemishofen.
Club Trip
This will be followed by a club trip to northern Germany from 3 to 7 September. Stops are planned in Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Emden, where radio activities from light vessels and salvage tugs are scheduled. Information on the annual programme and the special call sign can be found on the club’s website and in the USKA events calendar.
