Elettra Back On Air: Bringing the voice of the Marconi yacht back to life

On the weekend of 6 and 7 June 2026, the ARI Fidenza branch will host the twelfth edition of the technical and cultural event ‘Elettra Back On Air’.

The event will take place with the support of the Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi, directly from Villa Griffone in Pontecchio Marconi (Bologna).

The aim of this event is to pay international tribute to the historical significance of the yacht ‘Elettra’. The vessel served as a floating laboratory for Guglielmo Marconi, on which he carried out fundamental experiments on radio technology and microwaves.

Throughout the weekend, radio amateurs from ARI Fidenza will be operating a station in the immediate vicinity of the yacht’s original keel, which is preserved in the museum.

This will symbolically bring the ‘voice’ of the ‘Elettra’ back to life, and radio amateurs worldwide will have the opportunity to contact the historic Marconi station. The activation takes place as part of the international ‘Museum Ships Weekend Event’, which brings hundreds of museum ships worldwide onto the airwaves every year on the first weekend of June.
