Bouvet Island: DXpedition delayed
The eagerly awaited activation of the world’s second-most remote island, Bouvet Island, has had to be postponed by around two weeks. This is due to additional maintenance work on the expedition vessel.
As announced by the 3Y0K team leadership, the extreme weather conditions and the challenging crossing to the Antarctic island make it essential that the ship is in absolutely flawless technical condition. “The safety of our team is our top priority,” emphasised the team leader in an official statement.
Despite the regrettable delay, the overall strategy for the DXpedition – which has been meticulously planned over the past three years – remains unchanged. The team is using the extra time in Cape Town to carry out final equipment tests and fine-tune logistics.
As soon as an updated timetable for departure is available, the team will provide a further update. For radio amateurs worldwide, this means they will not need to have their antennas ready for the ‘Queen of the DX Islands’ until the second half of February.
