EmComm: Concept and Implementation
Since 2018, the USKA has been organising an annual full-day EmComm conference.
Radio amateurs are quick to respond
What makes EmComm provided by radio amateurs particularly distinctive is that it is available almost immediately following an incident. This is thanks to the fact that radio amateurs use their equipment regularly and are therefore ready for operation, whilst also being thoroughly familiar with how to operate it. They can therefore establish connections almost immediately after the failure of standard communication networks and systems, whether amongst themselves or with locations unaffected by the incident.
Radio amateurs form, so to speak, the ‘emergency reserve’ for communications. They can operate connections independently of the existing infrastructure, thereby strengthening resilience in crisis management.
