EmComm Conference 2026, Brütten

On Saturday, 10 October 2026, the emergency radio community will gather in Brütten, Zurich. For the first time, the USKA is specifically opening up the EmComm conference to representatives of public authorities: alongside the specialist presentations for radio amateurs, there will be a separate series of talks for members of command staff, civil defence and the fire service.

Programme

  • 09:30 Opening and welcome (HB9ALH, representative of the local authorities)
  • Morning – Radio amateurs: Technical presentations – the three levels of radio communication in emergency and crisis situations, the ‘last mile’ to the public using CB radio and PMR-446, and the HB9NB emergency radio rack, Winlink HF/FM, AREDN, radio coverage in the Zurich and Eastern Switzerland region
  • Morning – Public authorities: Outdoor exhibition with guided demonstrations and a tour of the Brütten emergency radio container
  • 12.20 Lunch in the marquee (registration required)
  • From 13:30 – Radio amateurs: Outdoor practical session – Winlink 2000 via shortwave and VHF/UHF, ‘last mile’ via CB and PMR-446, emergency radio rack, AREDN, relay to institutional services
  • Afternoon – Public Authorities: Presentations for non-radio operators, including a case study by Dominik Schwerzmann HB3YQP, Head of the Office for Civil Protection, Civil Defence and Military Affairs of the Canton of Zug
  • 16:15 End of the conference

Getting here

Public transport: Train to Bassersdorf or Winterthur, then bus 660 to ‘Brütten, Harossen’, followed by a 6–7-minute walk (signposted ‘EmComm 2026’). By car: Säntisstrasse, Brütten – car parks on the right-hand side of the road; access is signposted and there are traffic directions.
