Radio amateurs have an extremely fascinating hobby. They communicate around the world using the simplest of means, directly from house to house, from antenna to antenna. In principle, anyone can become a radio amateur and take part in this global hobby.
To be allowed to operate on the air worldwide, you need sound technical and operational training. Various radio amateur clubs and groups provide this training through courses. The aim of the courses is to pass the examination and obtain a licence as an HB3 or HB9 operator. You can pass the exam regardless of your age or professional background. In Switzerland, the OFCOM assesses applicants for an amateur radio licence in technical and operational subjects.
