Peter Jost HB9CET 1942 – 2025

Our highly esteemed honorary member Peter Jost sadly passed away on 3 January 2025 as a result of a sudden brain haemorrhage at the age of 82.
We are very saddened and pay silent tribute to his highly competent commitment to the USKA and the IARU in the years 2006-2024. It all began with the USKA Band Guard, which he led and developed with great expertise for 18 years. This led to him being appointed by IARU Region 1 as Vice Coordinator and Coordinator a.i. of the IARU Monitoring System (2012-2021), thereby also ensuring that our bands were kept clear at international level. At the same time, as a member of the Board of Directors for 7 years (2011-2018), he was in charge of liaising with the authorities and OFCOM.
In recognition of his outstanding expertise, he was awarded honorary membership by the USKA in 2018 and in 2020 he was honoured with the IARU Region 1 Medal of Merit for his enormous work. The relevant certificate records this:
Acting IARUMS coordinator for a period until October 2020 and deputy coordinator for many years, Peter continues in this deputy role. Peter has made a major contribution to the IARUMS Newsletters and has developed excellent professional presentation material on the IARUMS work. The IARUMS is internationally recognised for the quality of its work.
Peter was a great asset to amateur radio. With his calmness, professionalism and empathy, he was always welcome everywhere, both in Switzerland and abroad. He has done a great deal for the USKA Board in various roles since 2006, was always on hand and always willing to pass on his knowledge. The passing of Peter HB9CET is a very great loss, as his professional and social skills are now gone forever. Unfortunately, he has now been called back to another world by a higher power and we hope that he will be well there. The USKA Board wishes his XYL Doris much courage and strength to cope with her immense suffering. R.I.P. dear Peter.
For the board: Willy HB9AHL
