News concerning Anytone radios
OFCOM has released the following communication for publication:
Quote:
- The ban on importing and making available on the market for the Anytone AT-D878UV PLUS radio equipment remains in place.
- The import and making available on the market of a new amateur radio device based on the Anytone AT-D878UV PLUS device and equipped with a firmware version > 3.0 is possible, provided that, inter alia:
- the new device can be distinguished from the old one (new identification);
- the new device meets the technical requirements for amateur radio devices;
- the manufacturer has complete technical documentation proving the conformity of the new device with the technical requirements for amateur radio equipment
- the user is informed that it is an amateur radio device which may only be operated on frequencies intended for amateur radio.
- OFCOM tolerates that Anytone AT-D878UV PLUS devices already sold may be operated provided that their software is updated to version 3, they are operated exclusively on amateur radio frequencies and do not cause interference.
- This information also applies to the following models: AT-D878UVll PLUS, AT-D878UV, AT-D878UVll, AT-878UVlll and ATD9.
We would like to remind you that the requirements applicable in the EU are the same as those in Switzerland. As market surveillance cannot cover all products on the market, it may happen that a non-compliant product is only detected on one of the markets in Europe.
End quote
In practice, this means
- The purchase of an Anytone device of the AT-D878UV Plus /Plus II etc. is not recommended, even if such devices are still available abroad.
- All existing devices must be loaded with the new firmware version 3. This can be found on various dealer websites.
- A successor device with a new type designation (probably AT-D890UV) will be launched on the market soon (probably January 2024).
