HST 2025 – 19 October 2025 (Days 4 & 5)

21st IARU High Speed Telegraphy World Championships 2025

18–19 October 2025, Days 4 and 5

The fourth day began at 8:30 a.m. with a short walk along the Adriatic Sea to the port of Herceg Novi. There, the participants boarded boats for a cruise in the Bay of Kotor, with short stops on the island of ‘Lady of the Rocks’ and the harbour town of Perast. These excursions are not only for exchanging experiences, but also for making new contacts. Many of the participants are experienced contesters, DXers or SOTA activists.

At 2:30 p.m., everyone was back in Herceg Novi and had some time to prepare for the award ceremonies. These began at 4:00 p.m. with the support of Montenegro’s most famous radio amateur, Ranko Boka (4O3A).

All age categories and disciplines were awarded medals for the first three places, as well as a trophy for the team world champion.

As in previous years, the young team from Belarus took the world championship title. Romania came in second and the team from Russia came in third. The Swiss team with HB9AGA, HB9AJP and HB9CSA achieved a solid 9th place out of 17 participating nations. This position could only be achieved by participating in three different age categories. I (HB9CSA) am very grateful to Walter (HB9AGA) and Christoph (HB9AJP) for undertaking this journey and the strenuous competitions to make this successful result possible!

In the medal table, HB is the best country in Western Europe with 4 medals, placing it in a respectable 6th place. Belarus also won here, ahead of Romania, Russia, Hungary and Bulgaria.

The two new world records in the RUFZXP category by Ianis YO8YNS and Yuljia EW8-095 were also awarded prizes.

After the ceremonies, the members of the IARU HST Working Group met for their annual meeting. The focus was on the future of the age categories and the introduction of new, ‘amateur radio’ friendly disciplines. DL2CC presented a mixture of RUFZXP and Transmitting, which, with some modifications, may be tried out next year without scoring.

The country in which the HST World Championships 2026 will take place has not yet been decided, but there are two interested parties from Europe.

The rest of the evening was spent celebrating, and after a short night, everyone travelled home full of new impressions. Most of them with the intention of practising much more for the coming year…
