HST 2025 – 16.10.2025 (Day 1 & 2)
21st IARU High Speed Telegraphy World Championships 2025
This year’s World Championships in High Speed Telegraphy will take place from 15 to 19 October in the Montenegrin town of Herceg Novi on the Adriatic coast. Almost 90 participants from 17 nations made the journey to the Adriatic coast, with those travelling furthest coming from JA, JT and W6. This year, numerous visitors have travelled to watch the competitions up close. Walter Schmutz (HB9AGA), Christoph Zehntner (HB9AJP) and Fritz Zwingli HB9CSA are representing Switzerland this year.
15 October 2025, Day 1
The 21st IARU HST World Championships were officially opened on Wednesday evening by the chairman of the IARU HST Working Group, Oliver Tabakovski (Z32TO), the mayor of Herceg Novi, and the president of the Montenegro Amateur Radio Pool (MARP).
16 October 2025, Day 2
Thursday began for the participants with competitions in five-group audio reading, five-group keying, call sign listening (RUFZXP), and Morse Runner, the contest simulation programme from VE3NEA.
Audio reading and Morse Runner take place in a large hall with up to 20 participants. RUFZXP and keying take place in individual rooms under the supervision of an international jury of two to three members.
Very good results were achieved in all age categories, with the new world record set by 13-year-old Romanian Ianis Scutaru YO8YNS in the call sign listening (RUFZXP) category at an official championship eclipsing everything else. His result was 317,557 points and a maximum speed of 1268 characters per minute (Paris calculation).
The Swiss team achieved very good results and, thanks to HB9CSA, was already able to celebrate a silver medal in his favourite discipline, ‘Transmitting’, and an unexpected bronze medal in the RUFZXP discipline.
After the first day, Belarus leads the medal table, well ahead of Romania and Russia.
For the second day of competition, we hope for exciting contests and interesting conversations with the many radio amateurs from all over the world.
Warm regards and vy73 from Montenegro.
HB9CSA Fritz
