HamChallenge 2022 – Call for participation!

Deutsche Version: HamChallenge 2022 – Aufruf zum Mitmachen!
Version française: HamChallenge 2022 – Appel à la participation !
Versione italiana: HamChallenge 2022 – Invito a partecipare!

At least since the IARU R1 Workshop 2021 “Future of Amateur Radio” (STF), there has been a mood of attack in IARU. Above all, years of sleeping through digital technologies have led to very few young people joining the communities of us radio amateurs (see page 59 in HBradio 6/2021). It has now become clear to everyone that there is a massive need for action and that “more of the same” is not an option. The problem cannot be solved with “fighting the symptoms”.
A further development process has been started in the IARU, in which USKA is actively participating with no less than five qualified delegates (HB9AMC, HB9BKT, HB9BLA, HB9FRV, HB9UFQ).
We do not have to reinvent the product “radio amateur”, but we do have to redefine it, i.e. bring it into the 21st century. As we all know, we radio amateurs are not consumers who can only “operate” equipment. We are interested in how modern analogue and digital communication technologies work. Understanding this helps young people in particular to use the challenges of the “digital transformation” to their advantage instead of becoming its victims.

In parallel to the already active STF teams, the IARU has now taken another initiative: HAMChallenge 2022.
What revolutionary ideas do you have to ensure the future viability of amateur radio ?
So it’s not about “more marketing”, “more PR”, but a fundamental revision of what we are. Keywords are “experiments”, “digital”, “communication”, “wireless” and the like).
Individuals and teams, including sections or collective members of the USKA, are eligible to participate. Many sections of the USKA have been in an “alarm mood” for some time and are discussing ways out of their misery. The deadline for entries is 31 May 2022 – selected ideas can then be elaborated until HAM RADIO in order to present them online or in person in Friedrichshafen.
All further information can be found in the downloadable call for entries.
USKA will be happy to advise radio amateurs or groups wishing to participate.
