Bandwatch reports

Bandwatch reports

The USKA Bandwacht reports are prepared monthly and comply with the requirements of IARU R1. They provide an overview of unwanted emissions (intruders) detected during the month under review. Only exceptionally and purely for information purposes are bands included that are only secondarily assigned to amateur radio and it is usually not possible to determine whether a station is legal or illegal. This also applies to bands where several equivalent primary allocations (co-primary) exist (e.g. 80m).

The messages are structured as follows:

BW-Header

Column Description
kHz Frequency in kilohertz: SSB = VFO; Digital Modes = Center QRG (exceptionally also VFO)
UTC Time in UTC
DD Day (the year is always in the title)
MM Month
ITU ITU identifier of the country of origin (if known)
IDENT Identification such as callsign or station name (if known)
MODE Operating mode (if possible according to ITU standard (type of emission)
BD / sps
Baud rate Baud; bits per second Bps; pulses per second pps; sweeps per second sps
SH Shift, spacing or total bandwidth; in Hertz
Details Additional information

Reports to the band guard

Dependent on active cooperation

In order to fulfill its mission, the band guard is dependent on the active cooperation of all radio amateurs. Please support us and help us to defend our amateur bands. Every radio amateur (including SWL) can help to detect and identify intruders without great effort – and without any obligation!

Do you speak foreign languages in order to identify interferers? Do you have specialist knowledge or special technical equipment? Can you monitor our tapes at “impossible” times? Do you have special decoders for digital signals? Then you would be particularly welcome in the “Bandwacht” team!

What should a report to the band guard contain?

Reports about interferers or band intruders should contain the following information:

  • Frequency in kHz, whether VFO (LSB/USB) or Center QRG (CF)
  • Date and time (UTC)
  • Operating mode and more detailed information on the interferer: callsign (if known) or announcement, language, shift and baud rate
  • other useful information and:
  • Your name, callsign (if available), telephone number and address
